New York is third most populous state in the United States with the population estimated at 19 million in 2006. New York City is the largest city in both the US and the state. It is the home of major ancestry groups like African Americans, Italians, Irish and German. New York also houses the largest Dominican and Jamaican population in the US and the neighborhood of Harlem is famous as a major cultural capital for for African-Americans.
New York registers the third highest gross state product in 2006 wherein banking, finance and communication are pin pointed as the top industries. Many of the world’s biggest corporations are headquartered in New York City and it is also the home of the New York Stock Exchange. Aside from its manufacturing sector, the state is also known as a major agricultural producer.
The many opportunities offered by New York to workers, entertainers and businessmen are evident with the number of people migrating to the city. Its capital, New York City is known as “the city that never sleeps” as businesses are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
