Yissum is turning Gold, going towards its 50th year of promoting Technology Transfer Services from Hebrew University of Jerusalem. It is among the earliest developed site of a Technology Transfer University. It is lined up next to Weizmann Institute’s Yeda and followed far later by other Universities from Europe, Asia and America. Through Yissum, many have supported the education, research and products from this university.
Hebrew University’s intellectual property and products are securely protected and upheld by Yissum. From the beginning thousand patent families have been generated and granted through the site. And even before the company reached 50 years it already the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology with 50 other companies.
Among the successful associate companies of Yissum was NasVax Ltd. of Prof. Chezy Barenholz which at December 2005 got proposed on a Tel Aniv’s Initial Public Offering. With the help of Hebrew University’s pension fund for BioCacell Inc., raised more than $3 million for the clinic trials of its H19-based therapy for bladder cancer patients. Prof. Raymond Kaempfer also trusted Yissum for a grant application of his Atox Bio Inc.
Innovations were made when Yissum changed management near 2006. Development of concentrated attention for products and producers has been made because of deeper research and stricter standard for quality.
The site is the trusted provider of license, sponsor, research and scientific facilities for Hebrew University students and affiliates. Yissum’s years of familiarity with such servitude has been relied upon worldwide. Inventors and sponsors from different continents get their licence from here. Research and factory budget for the University is increased by the site to about 10%. By 2007, 30 above license were approved and 400 agreements together with almost 500 projects were commercialized through Yissum.
