Why do people love paintings?

When I was younger, I kept wondering why people would buy a painting for $10 million. I mean, it’s just a picture, so what if it was painted by Leonardo da Vinci? I disliked having to go to museums and looking at old paintings of famous people. I though of them as nothing but dusty and at time, absurd.

A few years ago, I got involved with this guy who liked going to museums. Of course I couldn’t tell him I wasn’t much of an art person because he was so excited to tell me that we’re going for a trip to the National Museum. My mind said “please, bring me to the zoo, but never the museum.”

Anyway, I still went with him, and was amazed when I saw that some of the paintings were made by handicapped people. Here was one made by a man with no hands and was using his mouth to paint. I have two hands but i can never create something you can call anywhere near beautiful. That’s when I understood why people love to have paintings. While there are art collectors who can pay millions, there are others who are content with having a reproduction at home. At Allpaintings Art Portal, you can now find your favorite painting and have your very own collection at home. Visit http://www.allpaintings.org for details.
